Aircraft Engines

To move an aircraft through the air, we have to use some kind of propulsion system to generate thrust. Aircraft powered by piston engines get virtually all of their thrust from the propeller driven by the engine. This type of engine mixes fuel with air and burns the fuel to release the energy. The resulting heated gas moves a piston, which is attached to a crankshaft.
