Several species
of Rafflesia grow in the forests of southeast Asia, including the
Philippines. The flower of Rafflesia arnoldii is the largest which
attains a diameter of nearly one meter (3 ft) and can weigh up to 11
kilograms (24 lb). This parasitic plant develops the world's largest
bloom. It smells bad and has a hole in the center that holds six or
seven quarts of water. The plant has no leaves, stems, or roots and
