World's largest bloom

Several species of Rafflesia grow in the forests of southeast Asia, including the Philippines. The flower of Rafflesia arnoldii is the largest which attains a diameter of nearly one meter (3 ft) and can weigh up to 11 kilograms (24 lb). This parasitic plant develops the world's largest bloom. It smells bad and has a hole in the center that holds six or seven quarts of water. The plant has no leaves, stems, or roots and grows on forest floors. Learn more about flowers and leaves.
